Our Vision & Goals

We’re fighting in three key areas to guarantee a healthy and sustainable future for every Philadelphian

Healthy, Affordable, and Climate Resilient Housing for all Philadelphians

We need policies and public investments that meet people’s urgent need for safe, healthy and affordable housing while securing a future with a fully electrified, energy-efficient, fossil-free, and climate-resilient housing stock.

  • These solutions must be available for homeowners (including homeowners with tangled titles) and renters.

There should be explicit prioritization of the black, brown, and low-income households that are most affected by housing disrepair, historic disinvestment, high utility costs, and climate change.

Affordable, Fossil Fuel-Free Utilities

We want a transition towards renewable, affordable, reliable, universally accessible, and fossil fuel-free utilities in the city of Philadelphia.

  • We want transparency and public accountability from all of our utilities. As a municipally owned utility supplying about 500,000 Philadelphia households, Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) should be required to produce budgets and business plans that match the city’s goal for rapidly phasing out fossil fuels, while guaranteeing that all Philadelphians have access to the energy that they need at rates they can afford.

We want PECO, as Philadelphia’s electricity utility, to be a leader in supporting housing electrification and clean energy while reducing residents’ overall energy burden.

Family and Community-Sustaining Jobs

Retrofitting homes across Philadelphia will employ thousands of people for years to come. We are organizing to ensure that jobs in this field are good jobs, and that they are accessible to people who have been excluded from living wage employment.

  • Healthy working conditions with living wages, health benefits, sick leave, and paid vacation should be a guaranteed right for every worker in Philadelphia. This includes workers who do the taxing labor needed to repair our homes, increase their energy efficiency, convert them to renewable energy sources, and improve their resilience to extreme weather.

We call for policies that ensure jobs with dignity, support collective bargaining, and create opportunities for returning citizens, women, people who struggled in school, and other Philadelphians who face barriers to obtaining jobs that would support them and their families.
